The Iraq Moratorium
Friday, May 16, is Iraq Moratorium #9. The Moratorium is every third Friday of the month, until ALL troops are home. Please do something, no matter how small, to show your opposition to this war. No one else will.
The Moratorium is a great idea, because everyone can get involved. You don't have to be a "protester." Just wear an arm band, talk to someone, make a couple of phone calls, put a sign in your window - be creative! Get the opposition back into the public eye!
The Coalition For World Peace usually goes to its traditional location downtown with banners opposing the war. This usually happens at 5 PM, and it is always on Figueroa near 5th Street and the 110 Freeway entrance, where thousands of drivers go by.
More info about the Moratorium and local events is at www.iraqmoratorium.org.

Open U.S. National Antiwar Conference
It is not reasonable to expect that closed or narrow meetings of a select few, or gatherings representing only one portion of the movement, can substitute for the full participation of the extremely broad array of forces which today stand opposed to the war.
The organizers of this conference therefore invite everyone, every organization, every coalition, everywhere in the U.S. - all who oppose the war and the occupation -- to attend an open democratic U.S. national antiwar conference and join advancing and promoting the coming together of an antiwar movement in this country with the power to make a mighty contribution toward ending the war and occupation of Iraq now.
Everyone is welcome. The objective is to place on the agenda of the entire U.S. antiwar movement a proposal for the largest possible united mass mobilization(s) in the future to stop the war and end the occupation.

Santa Monica Pier 8 AM - 6 PM |
| Endorsed by the Coalition For World Peace |
The Arlington West Memorial
EVERY SUNDAY, in Santa Monica, on the beach just north of the Santa Monica Pier. Setup at 7:15 AM, removal at dusk.
Since Feb 15, 2004, Arlington West has gone from 540 crosses to well over a thousand, some of which are red to represent 10 dead American soldiers. There are also some stars and crescents, and a recognition that Iraqi dead would fill up the whole VERY large beach.
Volunteers are BADLY needed! This is becoming a gigantic effort! They are out there rain or shine EVERY week.
This very moving, nonpartisan memorial is put on by the Los Angeles Chapter of Veterans For Peace. VFP plans to do this every Sunday until the United States pulls the troops out of Iraq. Arlington West has become a very important part of this movement.

Friday Night Video Outreach is Back! (Every other Friday in Santa Monica)
The Coalition for World Peace video outreach team will be screening films outdoors at the Third Street Promenade between 8 and 10 PM.
Our exact location can't be guaranteed, but we usually set up between Santa Monica Boulevard and Broadway. If it's too crowded there, you'll find us on one of the other two blocks of the Promenade (between Santa Monica and Arizona, or Arizona and Wilshire).
If you can help out (which basically means just being there and talking to people), please join us. There's a lot of foot traffic on Friday nights and the more people we have, the more impact we'll have.

Join LA Jews for Peace in a Gaza Siege/Cease Fire Protest
Israel's siege of Gaza continues with 1.5 million people still being held at the brink of starvation. People are being killed and terrorized by continued military attacks A cease fire will stop the killing on all sides and allow the parties to focus on negotiations.
At the Farmer's Market, 3rd and Fairfax
This is similar to the protest in Westwood Village last March. Bring your own signs. No US, Israeli, or Palestinian flags please. The focus is humanitarian, about building bridges between people, not divisions, whether they are imposed from the outside in the form of walls or "voluntarily" constructed from within in the form of national flags. Good sign ideas include:
- CEASE FIRE BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS
- END U.S. SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL SIEGE OF GAZA
- END U.S. SUPPORT FOR COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT OF GAZA
- STOP THE KILLING - GAZA CEASE FIRE NOW
- STARVING CHILDREN ARE NOT A JEWISH VALUE
